The first week of April marks one of my favorite times of the year. My husband takes off a week of work, and we load up the truck — our Pony Express — and head for Ohio Amish country. No, we’re not vacationing; we’re working as we take in the sights and sounds of the annual Ohio Hardwood Furniture Market.

Over the past four years, we’ve attended eight furniture shows highlighting the newest and best furniture American craftsmen have to offer. When I walk in to an exhibit center and see 40,000+ square feet filled with American-crafted hardwood furniture, I’m filled with pride for my country and the American-made furniture industry.

I grew up near Rocky Mount with uncles who were amazing furniture craftsmen, creating cedar chests, wardrobes, bookshelves and useful household items. I’m happy knowing that Wood Grains helps to support American builders while offering to you the finest hardwood furniture available.

As we step into the expo, the smell of new wood furniture reaches out, enveloping us with warmth that only comes from real wood. We’ll get to meet and eat with our Amish friends, exploring ways we can work together to bring you the furniture you want, need and deserve. We’ll talk to dealers from other states, seeing what their customers expect this year.

Well, maybe there’s a little downtime during the expo.

As we walk past their buggies and beautiful horses to enter the show, we’ll be thinking of you, our customers, as we make purchases for our showroom floor. This is an ideal time for you to reach out to us to let us know what to look for as we prepare for the show.

We expect to see interesting bedroom and dining room innovations, and we have a particular new table in mind that we’d like to add to our floor, one with modern style but classic construction. We expect rustic and barnwood furniture will continue to be big this year, with concealment and multipurpose furniture continuing to grow in popularity.

We’re always surprised by the creativity and genius of the Amish furniture makers, and this year will be no different. We’ll share some of those surprises on our Facebook page as we discover them, so check in with us for updates.

Store hours next week will be from 10-2 on Tuesday and 10-3 Wednesday-Friday. We’ll be back to our normal 10-6 on Saturday as we unload the Pony Express with some of the new goodies from the show. Come see us soon for the best selection, right across from the Harvester in downtown Rocky Mount! Follow the new wayfinding signs right to us! We’ll see you soon.

All the best,

Dulcie
